A Barn Dance
A Barn Dance

Come join us in kicking off the Festival with good ol’ fashioned barn Dance in the Memorial Hall. Bring your dancing shows and follow the calling of Mary Beth Carty with live music from her band Marrow Bones. No experience is necessary, just a positive attitude and a smile on your face!

Due to the fact we will have audience risers in the hall and little less speace then we would ideally like, we have limited the number of tickets available (120) to allow for as much dance space as possible.

The Marrow Bones

The Marrow Bones - Harrison Festival Society
The Marrow Bones

A fiddler from Newfoundland, a piper from the Eastern Townships of Quebec, and a strummer from Antigonish, Nova Scotia walk into a wooden hall. What happens next? Maximum Celtic Groove! Marrow Bones is an eclectic roots ensemble composed of best-friends Mary Beth Carty (accordion, guitar, bones, voice, foot-stomp), Colin Carrigan (fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki), and Roy MacLaren (whistles, banjo, pipes). The trio began by hosting an annual spring barn-dance a few years back. Now, they are poised for ceilidh-domination with a fresh mash-up of tune sets, waltzes, and unusual songs.

Mary Beth Carty is winner of the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award for Traditional Singer of the Year, and recently had a song included on the Putumayo compilation album Celtic Voices. Roy MacLaren has recorded tin-whistle on albums by Joel Plaskett, Buck 65, and Al Tuck. His piping is greatly influenced by Hamish Moore, with whom he will be studying the art of reed-making this August. Colin Carrigan is a trained luthier who plays a fiddle of his own making. Colin has toured with the Ennis Sisters, has composed tunes recorded by the Navigators and other artists, and plays many compositions by the late Newfoundland fiddler Émile Benoît.Together, Marrow Bones are a unique power-trio whose music combines improvisational elements and deep tradition.

You got questions, we got answers! Have a read of the following to gain an idea of what the night will look like.

Where will the show be?

In Harrison at 290 Esplanade Ave. The Harrison Memorial Hall

How long will the concert be?

Our Hall Performances are typically two 45 min sets with an intermission in the middle

Will I be able to grab a drink and a snack at the show?

Yes, we will have a licenced bar and concession open at the show.

Will I be able to buy a CD or talk to the artist after the show?

It depends on the artist. We will have an area set up just for this, but it depends on how comfortable each artist feels about it and if they bring merch to sell. We usually find out about merch the day of, but we will update this when we know more. If merch is available, We are able to accept cash, debit or credit. We prefer card over cash.

Will I be able to sit beside my friends?

Yes, Festival seating is first come first serve though.

Will there be bathrooms available?

Yes, bathrooms with either hand sanitizer or soap and water will be available.

Where do I park?

There is a lot of parking just outside the venue. We recommend coming early though to get spots closer to the venue. Pay parking will be in effect.

Will seating be provided?

Yes! For indoor shows, we ask that patrons that would prefer to sit and enjoy sit near the back, and those that like to get up and dance, sit near the front.

Will I be able to buy my ticket at the door?

Yes, we will be able to process last-minute sales at the door if tickets are still available. We accept Debit, Credit and cash!
There are no tickets required if the show is on the beach.

Yes, in order to walk through the doors, you will have to hand our ticket takers a ticket. However, you don’t need to worry about grabbing them before you arrive. If you have a confirmation from us, then your tickets will be held at the Will Call and you can pick them up just before you go in.

What do I need to bring?

A part from good vibes, nothing. We recommend bringing proof of purchase of the tickets, but we will have your name on a list and be able to check on your order. We also recommend bringing a credit or debit card for concession items and merch if you so choose. Cash is fine too, but we prefer to be cash-light these days. Also, some shows can get loud, so ear plugs are a good idea too.
